Passions and morality are restrictive, and if the Seekers share any quality at all, it’s that they seek to transcend restrictions. They see the needs and desires of others as an unnecessary distraction from their own evolution, or even worse, a pollution of their own perfect understanding.
While its followers value knowledge above all, they seek to discover it on their own terms, free of a mentor’s biases or shortcomings. The Road of Metamorphosis is a solitary journey. But that final step is hidden, daunting, even frightening someone has to be the first take it, and that someone will be a Seeker. Theirs is a lonely journey to godhood having already transcended life and death, true ascendancy is merely a step away.
What do vampires become? Such is the question at the heart of the Road of Metamorphosis, and given this conceit, it’s not surprising that the vast majority of Cainites who walk it are Tzimisce, whose powers of Vicissitude make them uniquely qualified to explore the notion of vampiric evolution. Characters on the path of Humanity win ties, characters on other paths lose ties. Success on the test means the character maintains their current path rating. When characters do something that would violate their path, there will be a simple test. Characters must have a Kindred Lore of at least 2 to know that other Paths exist. Storytellers are under no such compulsion for the other paths of enlightenment. Storytellers will always warn characters before they do something that may affect their Humanity rating. Each Road has a different Hierarchy of Sins, which lists what actions mandate a degeneration role for a character with a given path rating. These ratings tend to vary throughout a character's unlife.
While the Road of Humanity is one of the most widely practiced philosophies, it is not nearly as universal as the Humanity trait in VTM.Įvery Road has five ranks, with 5 being near-perfectly attuned to the path and 1 being barely in control. Joining a road requires justification and is a level 1 merit and requires that you drop your humanity to one. A Road's primary purpose is to suppress or control the Beast within the vampire.
